The A Side: A Day in The Life As Producer & Mastering Engineer at Universal Production Music, you will take on a dual role in the UK production team. As producer, you will produce albums for the production music catalogue, created with the purpose of being synced on TV, advertising and other media. As mastering engineer, you will be responsible for the mastering of all albums released on the Universal Production Music UK labels, including Atmosphere, Bruton, Chappell & Focus. Key duties include: Master albums for the in-house labels. Manage and organise the mastering schedule. Produce production music albums, from conception to release. Manage recording sessions when required. Proactively research and identify current music trends and gaps in the catalogue. Maintain composer relationships and research new talent to join roster. Be a key player across company repertoire initiatives and projects. The B Side: Skills & Experience Be Creative Provide in depth, critical listening to audio mixes and have the skills to produce high quality masters ready to release. Act as the final QC measure for the UK production team. Devise and conceptualise album briefs. Provide clear and concise creative feedback to composers on demos. Be innovative in developing ideas to improve repertoire offering. Be Organised Take responsibility for mastering schedule, ensuring a continued consistent number of albums are mastered. Manage the organisation and maintenance of the in house studios & equipment. Update quarterly asset list, logging changes & adding asset tags to new equipment. Be responsible for the safety, security & operation of all hardware & software systems. Project manage with ownership and accountability of your work. Work to deadlines, ensuring repertoire is produced, mastered & released on time. Be Collaborative Be a team player who can integrate well with the wider production music team, supporting other areas of the business when required. Manage existing relationships with our composer & songwriter roster and proactively build new ones. Act as ambassador for the production team in client facing meetings as required. Be Analytical Provide an analytical approach to listening to and reviewing audio. Utilize data to help inform on new repertoire to create. Personal Specification Essential Proven track record as a mastering engineer or in equivalent role. Professional & technical understanding and proven application of mastering. Proven experience of working with both digital and analogue mastering equipment, DAWs & audio mastering software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro & Wavelab. A technical understanding and proven application of signal flow, recording and operating of specialised audio equipment for mastering, live and recorded sound. Experience in the maintenance, repair and upgrades of studio equipment, with a good knowledge when troubleshooting issues. Methodical, thorough and process driven with immaculate attention to detail. Ability to manage a large workload working across many projects simultaneously. A passion and in depth understanding of music and media, covering a wide range of styles and genres. Desirable Experience working as a producer, mastering or mix engineer at a production music, bespoke composition, or media company. Experience of briefing composers and providing creative feedback. Experience in metadata taxonomy and tagging of music. Degree-level qualification in sound, music or closely related disciple, or equivalent industry experience.
