A well‑established and growing accountancy practice is seeking a Payroll Assistant to join its busy payroll team. This opportunity would suit someone with previous payroll experience in a bureau or multi‑client environment who is confident managing multiple deadlines and delivering excellent client service. Role Responsibilities
* Assist with the end‑to‑end processing of multiple client payrolls on a weekly, fortnightly, four‑weekly, monthly and annual basis.
* Process starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, bonuses and statutory payments accurately.
* Calculate and process PAYE, National Insurance, student loans and attachment of earnings orders.
* Ensure payrolls are completed in line with client deadlines and service level agreements.
* Support compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
* Assist with RTI submissions, pension uploads and statutory reporting.
* Support auto‑enrolment duties including assessments, opt‑ins/opt‑outs and contribution calculations.
* Maintain accurate payroll records in line with GDPR and data protection requirements.
* Respond to payroll queries from clients and employees in a professional and timely manner.
* Liaise with HMRC, pension providers and third parties where required.
* Escalate complex payroll issues to senior team members when appropriate.
* Support year‑end payroll processes including P60s and P11Ds where applicable.
* Assist the wider payroll team during peak periods.
Personal Requirements
* Previous experience within a payroll position, ideally in a bureau or multi‑client environment.
* Good understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
* Experience using payroll software such as Sage, BrightPay, Iris, Xero Payroll or similar.
* Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
* Ability to manage multiple payrolls and work to strict deadlines.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
