AHP Clinical Specialist Band 8a Hyperacute Rehabilitation
Take part in an exciting 12–month secondment at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust to lead a newly-developed hyper‑acute rehabilitation (HAR) pathway for patients following major trauma or illness. This role is open to an experienced Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Speech and Language Therapist with advanced clinical and leadership skills in neurological rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide robust clinical and operational leadership and strategic development across all four AHP professions on the unit.
* Lead the Hyperacute Rehab MDT on a day‑to‑day basis, coordinating staff and service delivery to achieve project objectives.
* Develop and implement care pathways for the HAR service, collaborating with the Rehabilitation Medicine consultant, project team and Health Innovation Wessex.
* Provide expert clinical advice and guidance on HAR project delivery, and support staff education and training.
* Deliver robust clinical leadership, effective communication, influencing, and inspiring the MDT to deliver high‑quality patient care.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
* Relevant professional qualification (dietitian, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist) and current HCPC registration.
* Extensive postgraduate clinical experience in acute neurological rehabilitation.
* Advanced clinical skills and proven management/leadership experience leading teams or projects.
* Experience supervising other staff or students and knowledge of NHS systems.
* Clear desire to work in hyper‑acute rehabilitation within UHS.
Desirable Skills
* Evidence of teaching to colleagues and students.
* Management qualification or equivalent experience.
* Attendance at postgraduate courses or conferences relevant to your area.
* Experience in an acute hospital setting and developing training programmes.
Employment Details
Band: 8a
Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per annum (pro‑rata)
Contract: Fixed‑term, 12 months
Working pattern: Full‑time or part‑time (up to 5 days per week)
