Reporting to the Lead Mechanic, the successful candidate will be assisting the Public Works Department with several key Operations & Fleet functions.


What you’ll do

* Assist Fleet Mechanics with routine maintenance and seasonal changeovers on municipal vehicles and equipment, including cleaning, preparing, and organizing assets for operational readiness
* Support the installation and removal of specialized fleet equipment and accessories under the direction of supervisory staff
* Perform basic servicing of light‑duty vehicles, small engines, and operational equipment to ensure safe and efficient use
* Help prepare fleet units for inspections by conducting preliminary checks, cleaning, and documenting required information
* Participate in annual inspection processes and assist with follow‑up tasks as required
* Support inventory counts and audits by organizing stock, verifying quantities, and updating records
* Organize and maintain the parts room, ensuring materials and supplies are stored safely and labeled appropriately
* Assist with painting, cleaning, and general upkeep of fleet equipment and attachments
* Perform shop maintenance duties, including cleaning work areas, detailing vehicles, and maintaining a safe and tidy workspace
* Assist with ongoing repairs and general shop tasks as directed by Fleet staff
* Pick up and deliver parts, tools, and vehicles as required to support fleet operations
* Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Fleet Division.


What you’ll need to succeed

* Preference will be given to post‑secondary students enrolled in programs related to automotive or mechanical expertise
* Experience with hydraulics, small engine and vehicle repairs, would be considered assets
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively; both oral and written
* Self‑motivated with the ability to function independently and as part of a team in a hybrid work environment
* Capable of dedicating 35 hours per week, with the flexibility to accommodate a variable schedule for participation in regular community events during evenings and weekends
* Access to a reliable vehicle
* Possess a valid Class G2 or G (or equivalent) drivers license
