Main duties of the job
1. To actively and safely participate as a member of the Haematology/Oncology Day Unit nursing team, contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the Unit
2. To carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care and when required support cross Trust At The Fernhurst Centre (SRH) and Balcombe ward (Worthing).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
3. Welcome patients and visitors, direct specific enquiries to nursing or medical staff.
4. To welcome patients in for their treatment appointment, record their weight, and carry out and record vital signs, ensuring any abnormalities are escalated to the nursing staff.
5. To assist the nursing/medical staff with procedures e.g. bone marrow biopsies and picc line insertion.
6. To procure and safely send off clinical specimens as required by the nurse or doctor
7. Access patient transport systems and track progress
8. Maintain infection control and assist with a weekly cleaning schedule.
9. To undertake basic clerical and reception duties when required.
10. To be actively involved in delivering a high standard of individual holistic patient care to promote and maintain all aspects of their physical, social, cultural and psychological needs.

Essential criteria
11. Care Certificate from a Ofqual regulated awarding organisation.
12. NHS experience or NHS primary care experience is required or an internationally educated nurse/midwife/doctor who has worked in an acute hospital setting within recent years.
13. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills acquisition, working at a higher-level standard of care delivery, equivalent to vocational qualification level 3. This is evidenced via a portfolio of practice and/or a professional discussion

14. Maths GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or Maths Level 2 functional skills
15. English GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or English Level 2 Functional skills

16. Computer / keyboard skills, sufficient to send/receive emails, document activities electronically, eg. In Electronic Patient Record
17. Good written and spoken English – able to communicate clearly and succinctly to patients and colleagues Legible handwriting and able to maintain accurate documentation

18. Completed training and had experience with service specific Senior HCA extended scope of practice skills, such as; venepuncture, ECGs, simple wound dressings
