The job itself

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our Special Educational Needs and Disability Assessment and Review Team (SENDART). We are passionate about promoting high aspirations and expectations for children and young people and we are now seeking a like-minded individual to join our team to support the growing number of children and young people in the East Riding with SEND (0-25 years) and their families.

The post will help us continue our improvement journey in relation to the timeliness of EHC assessments and annual reviews, enabling us to produce high quality EHC plans in line with statutory requirements. This is an exciting time to be joining us on our journey of development alongside the SEND reforms set out in the Government’s 2026 School’s White Paper. You will be part of an ambitious team aspiring to provide outstanding services to the children and young people of East Riding of Yorkshire.

We are looking for dedicated, organised, and resilient individuals to join SENDART as Education, Health and Care Officer (EHCOs). You will join a busy, fast paced team working closely with the families of children and young people with SEND to coordinate all aspects of EHC Needs Assessment and Review processes and assist schools and settings in facilitating high quality annual reviews for children and young people with Education Health and Care (EHC) Plans. The role is demanding, effective communication skills and the ability to remain solution focused in challenging meetings and discussions is essential.

You will produce high quality EHC Plans, completed within statutory timeframes; you will also be required to coordinate the delivery of relevant services / provision to ensure effective and timely delivery of the EHC process; working with relevant professionals in education, health and social care services, and other relevant disciplines, to ensure their knowledge, experience, skills and relevant assessments inform the EHC Plans.

Your practice will be informed on a daily basis by the SEND Code of Practice (2015), the SEND regulations 2014 and the Children and Families Act 2014. Ideally you will already have a thorough working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) or demonstrate a desire to acquire this on appointment.

You will have a degree or equivalent, preferably in a related field, and have experience of working with children, young people with SEND and their families. You will also have experience of working with families in relation to difficult / sensitive issues.

This post requires a DBS criminal record check, a clean driving licence and you must be able to drive your own vehicle for work.
