Position
Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) – Grade Band 5, Fixed term: 12 months (Secondment may be considered). Full‑time – 37.5 hours per week.
Location
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area (sites across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough including Cambridge & Peterborough).
Salary
£32,073–£39,043 per annum, pro‑rata.
Job Overview
Embark on an exciting journey as a Health Visitor. You will work closely with children, young people, and families, supporting health, development and wellbeing. The role involves enrolling in the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN Health Visitor) programme starting January 2027 in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).
Responsibilities
* Attend all educational sessions and submit assignments on time.
* Maintain liaison with the Practice Assessor and agree on a clinical learning programme.
* Identify and address health inequalities across diverse communities.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate family‑focused care programmes under supervision.
* Develop awareness of and involvement in the Healthy Child Programme.
* Demonstrate safeguarding skills and respond to concerns in line with local policy.
* Establish and maintain relationships with families and other professionals in a multi‑agency environment.
* Report absences and sickness to the University and practice placement.
* Attend clinical supervision with Practice Assessor and Practice Lead.
* Adhere to NMC Code, trust policies and confidentiality requirements.
* Participate in audits, training and emergency preparedness processes.
Person Specification – Qualifications & Training
* Registered nurse or midwife with current NMC registration (part 1 or 2).
* Practice Assessor qualification or equivalent.
* Eligibility to register as a newly qualified nurse or midwife before the course start date.
* Commitment to a 52‑week full‑time programme (50/50 split of study and supervised practice).
Person Specification – Experience
* Experience working with children & young people and their families.
* Experience working as part of a team and with other agencies.
* Understanding of legislation, guidance and policies relevant to the Healthy Child Programme.
* Ability to work independently.
Person Specification – Knowledge & Skills
* Understanding of health and safety requirements, risk assessment and safe working practices.
* Promotion of ‘best practice’ and improvement of local services.
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
* Good communication skills – verbal, written and IT.
* Awareness of safeguarding issues and legislation.
