Overview
Role Overview - Lead Mechanical Technician. We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Mechanical Technician (LMech) to oversee the safe and effective delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities across a critical environment. This includes supervising both internal technicians and subcontractors. This hands-on supervisory role requires participation in a shift rota and active involvement in day-to-day operations. The Lead Mechanical Technician will ensure technical excellence, safety compliance, and optimal team performance across all mechanical systems on site.
Responsibilities
* Act as deputy to the Technical Services Supervisor (TSS) when required.
* Participate in emergency escalation protocols and provide out-of-hours technical support.
* Ensure all team members and contractors adhere to safe systems of work, including RAMS, LOTO, and Permit to Work procedures.
* Maintain required site certifications and act as an Authorised Person (AP) as appointed.
* Lead by example in upholding technical standards, professionalism, and safety culture.
* Maintenance & Engineering: Oversee and perform routine and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems and critical infrastructure.
* Diagnose and repair faults efficiently, escalating complex issues when necessary.
* Coordinate task scheduling with the DigiHub/Helpdesk and liaise with end users for access and timing.
* Ensure all maintenance works, including those performed by subcontractors, meet engineering standards and industry best practices.
* Support small-scale project works and asset replacement tasks as directed.
* Team & Stakeholder Management: Allocate technician and subcontractor resources effectively to meet operational deadlines and service quality.
* Promote a team culture focused on safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
* Foster strong working relationships with clients, engineers, and external vendors.
* Mentor and support the professional development of technicians and apprentices.
* Reporting & Compliance: Provide regular progress and issue reports to the TSS, highlighting resource needs or operational challenges.
* Ensure all activities are logged accurately in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Adhere to all regulatory compliance and internal engineering standards.
* Complete all assigned training requirements and maintain up-to-date technical competencies.
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
* Valid Authorised Person (AP) certification (desirable).
Experience
* Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience.
* Previous work in a critical or high-reliability environment is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
* Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering standards, and statutory regulations.
IT & Systems
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
* Experience with CMMS platforms for task tracking and asset management.
