Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join the paediatric neurosurgical team, covering both the neurosurgical and scoliosis patients within the inpatient and outpatient setting. The team works closely with neurosurgeons, spinal surgeons, neurologists, oncologist, allied health professionals and paediatricians to provide specialist care to our patients.

The job involves; clinical patient reviews (within your scope of practice), running independent clinics, management of patient pathways and care, teaching, providing specialist support to staff and families and undertaking close liaison with ICU and HDU areas.


Main duties of the job

• Within your role you will provide support and follow up for the scoliosis service.
• To provide effective clinical leadership, expertise and advice to support the delivery of high quality nursing and medical care.
• To provide advanced clinical care through health assessment, initiation of treatment and monitoring of care programmes to children and young people within an agreed scope of practice
• To support the development of clinical protocols and care pathways for a specific caseload of patients.
• To facilitate the development of evidence based clinical practice through improvement, research and audit.
• Participate in the education of the multidisciplinary team.
• To be a clinical expert resource for other healthcare practitioners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Internal applicants on permanent contracts can apply for this post as a secondment. For secondments you must have the approval of your line manager before applying. If you are an internal applicant currently on a fixed term contract you are able to apply for this as a fixed term position.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

RSCN/ RN Child

First Degree (or equivalent level) in nursing or health-related subject

Teaching and Assessing qualification

Level 3 safeguarding training

Evidence of on-going CPD


Desirable criteria

Post graduate study to masters level

Speciality qualification

Non-medical prescriber

Advanced communication skills


Experience


Essential criteria

Experience working with acute and chronically ill children/ young people with neurosurgical conditions / scoliosis

Experience of working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Demonstrate a commitment to teaching colleagues/ students and to mentorship

Experience in developing patient information


Desirable criteria

Experience of independently managing a patient caseload

Experience working in a nurse specialist role

Experience liaising across organisational boundaries


Knowledge


Essential criteria

Understanding of how paediatric neurosurgery services are set up in the East of England

Demonstrate an understanding of relevant national policy and guidelines relating to children’s nursing


Skills


Essential criteria

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Skills of diplomacy and negotiation

Well-developed organisational and planning ability, able to prioritise and delegate

Computer literate

Able to problem solve and initiate change
