About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Business Support Officer to work alongside the Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Partnership (NCSCP) team, supporting the team with day-to-day administrative duties.

The NCSCP provides safeguarding arrangements under which the safeguarding partners and relevant agencies work together to coordinate their services, identify and respond to the needs of children in Nottingham City, commission and publish local child safeguarding practice reviews, and provide scrutiny to ensure the effectiveness of these arrangements.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

* Some experience in business support, administration, customer service, or a similar role, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused service.
* A proactive and organised approach to managing your workload, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
* Confident use of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
* Excellent communication skills and a confident personality — able to engage effectively with colleagues of different levels, citizens, and partner agencies in person, over the phone, and via email.
* Strong administrative skills, with the ability to handle a wide range of office tasks accurately and efficiently.
* A professional and discreet approach to handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
* Experience in supporting meetings, including taking accurate and clear minutes.

A Colleague’s Story

Here is a story from Rhiannon, a colleague who started in this role and has now progressed to her desired career as a Project Manager in the Adult Social Care Service:

Tell me about your career journey so far, and the role that you do at NCC / how long you’ve worked here?

I first started working at the council covering a maternity leave in 2018 for three months. I came back after finishing university in 2020 and started part-time as Business Support Officer in the Safeguarding Children Partnership team, which became full-time in February 2023. Over the last two years, I had the exciting opportunity to progress to a project management role within Change Delivery in Adult Social Care.

Why did you join NCC, and what makes you stay?

I originally joined through a family recommendation and returned due to the positive experience I had working here the first time. It feels like a safe place to work and I like working for a local authority — it’s not all about profit, but about making a difference.

How would you describe the culture here?

It is very caring and supportive. Everyone looks out for each other, and anyone will help and support you if you’re unsure of something. It’s like a big family and everyone gets along really well.

What training / development / progression have you benefitted from here?

Two years ago I had the opportunity to start a secondment that provided me with two months of training to become a project manager and data analyst. But even if it's not for a new role, there is always encouragement to do internal training and develop yourself further.

What are you most proud of working here?

NCC is always doing things for the right reasons and for the people of Nottingham. I’m proud that no one has ever held it against me that I started fresh out of university. I’ve now been here full-time for five years and have progressed throughout the organisation, being given the same chances as everyone else.

What three words would you use to describe working at NCC?

Supportive, Flexible, Varied.

What would you say to anyone considering a career in social care at NCC?

I would say go for it. It’s a really good environment to learn in, and if you’re considering it, it’s a great place to test out different things and find your niche. I’ve never come across anyone who doesn’t care about what they’re doing. It gives meaning to your job, especially when talking to people who care about what they do.
