Data Manager

Overview: As a Data Manager Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in leading the strategic implementation, optimization, and management of data management solutions within CommonSail Investment Group. You will serve as a working manager, balancing leadership and technical responsibilities equally in your day to day. You will lead, mentor, and support a team of data professionals while actively participating in hands-on data management, integration, and governance activities. This role is pivotal in ensuring that CommonSail’s data assets are accurate, secure, accessible, and leveraged effectively to support strategic business initiatives and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data professionals, balancing leadership with hands-on technical execution. Foster collaboration, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
2. Data Architecture & Management: Design and oversee data architecture, governance frameworks, and lifecycle processes to ensure scalability, security, and compliance across enterprise systems. Strong preference to candidates with API development experience
3. Data Integration & ETL: Develop and manage ETL processes, integrations, and data pipelines across systems (ERP, CRM, analytics platforms). Ensure accurate, timely, and consistent data flow.
4. Data Quality & Governance: Oversee data quality initiatives including cleansing, deduplication, and master data management. Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
5. Analytics & Reporting: Support the design and delivery of enterprise reporting and analytics, ensuring alignment to business needs and promoting data-driven decision-making.
6. Project Management: Lead data-related projects, balancing strategy with execution, and ensuring delivery of initiatives on time and within scope.
7. Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with business leaders and technical teams to align data strategy with organizational goals, translating requirements into scalable solutions.
8. Performance Monitoring: Establish KPIs and monitoring tools to track data quality, pipeline performance, and reporting effectiveness.
9. Vendor & Tool Management: Evaluate and manage data platforms, tools, and vendor relationships to ensure optimal value and alignment with business needs.
10. Training & Adoption: Develop and deliver training programs and documentation to improve organizational data literacy and adoption of data best practices.
Skills:
11. Data Leadership: Demonstrated ability to balance leadership and hands-on technical execution in data management roles.
12. Data Architecture & Governance: Expertise in data modeling, lifecycle management, data quality frameworks, and governance standards.
13. ETL & Integration: Proficiency with ETL tools, APIs, and integration methods to support enterprise data pipelines.(Boomi, Celigo, SnapLogic, etc)
14. Database & Cloud Platforms: Strong understanding of relational databases, cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure, GCP), and data warehouses.
15. Analytics & BI Tools: Experience with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) to enable insights and decision-making.
16. Programming & Scripting: Demonstrated knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar languages for data transformation and automation.
17. Business Process Optimization: Skilled at analyzing and improving business processes using data solutions for efficiency and scalability.
18. Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent ability to translate technical concepts into business terms and drive alignment across functions.
19. Agile Practices: Familiarity with agile delivery and agile project management methodologies for iterative delivery of data solutions.
Qualifications:
20. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
21. Minimum 7 years of experience in data management, API development, data integration, and data governance, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.
22. Strong hands-on technical expertise with SQL, ETL tools, and cloud-based data platforms.
23. Experience in leading and mentoring small teams of data professionals.
24. Knowledge of data privacy, compliance, and security standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
25. Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
General Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk, and use their hands to handle the keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
