Senior Mechanical Engineer Client: BAE Systems Location: Barrow–in–Furness Contract Length: 12 Months Hourly Rate: GBP40 PAYE or GBP53.90 Umbrella
BAE Systems are currently seeking multiple experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a high–performing engineering team based in Barrow–in–Furness. This is a 12–month contract opportunity supporting critical engineering programmes within a highly regulated and technically complex environment.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across the full product lifecycle. You will work closely with multi–disciplinary teams to ensure designs meet technical, safety, quality, and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide mechanical engineering expertise to support design, development, and integration activities
* Produce and review engineering documentation, including specifications, calculations, and reports
* Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality processes
* Support design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
* Liaise with stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, and project teams
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in a mechanical engineering role, ideally at senior level
* Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering standards
* Experience working in a complex engineering or highly regulated environment
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce high–quality engineering documentation
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
* Experience within defence, marine, nuclear, or heavy engineering industries
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
