About the Role
One of our clients is seeking a dedicated and proactive Public Protection Officer to join their Environmental Health and Public Protection team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in protecting and improving the health and wellbeing of our residents by tackling environmental issues including noise complaints, statutory nuisances, and a range of public health concerns.
Key Responsibilities
* Investigate and resolve complaints relating to noise, smoke, odour, accumulations, and other statutory nuisances.
* Respond to public health issues such as pest infestations, filthy and verminous premises, drainage issues, and housing-related health hazards.
* Carry out inspections, gather evidence, and take enforcement action where necessary in accordance with relevant legislation (e.g. Environmental Protection Act 1990, Public Health Act 1936/1961).
* Provide expert advice to residents, businesses, and stakeholders on environmental health matters.
* Prepare reports, serve notices, and give evidence in court or at tribunals when required.
* Contribute to public awareness campaigns and cross-departmental initiatives.
About You
* Experience working in a local authority or similar regulatory environment, particularly in environmental health or public protection.
* Sound knowledge of relevant environmental and public health legislation.
* Strong investigative, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Ability to manage a varied caseload and respond quickly to urgent or sensitive issues.
* A degree or diploma in Environmental Health or a related field is desirable; EHORB registration is an advantage.
