Job Description Summary
The applicant will be responsible for delivering a high‑quality automation installation for project testing. This includes requirement capture, detailed design, installation, commissioning, test programme delivery, and ongoing service support. The candidate should identify and propose process, tooling, and system improvements, and implement agreed enhancements with the leadership team.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Capture requirements and design the automation system, ensuring maintainability, extensibility, reliability, and consistency with company standards.
* Integrate software and hardware components into a unified application.
* Verify and validate the completed system, including hardware and power systems under test.
* Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and suppliers at all levels to produce design and system documentation.
* Provide maintenance, fault finding, diagnosis, repair, and upgrades/development as needed.
* Perform factory acceptance testing and commissioning following company quality procedures.
* Participate in design reviews.
* Assist in other business areas as required.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
* Existing or the ability to obtain UK security clearance levels, including SC Clearance and UK Eyes‑Only Clearance.
Desired Characteristics
* At least 5 years of experience implementing automation systems.
* Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI creation, and SCADA configuration.
* Proficient in industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT, and OPC‑UA.
* Familiar with industrial networks and their implementation.
* Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
* Hands‑on hardware troubleshooting and software debugging experience.
* Knowledge of electrical circuit operation and design.
* Knowledge of data storage, IT systems, power systems, test & instrumentation, data processing and analysis, instrument/sensor selection, control systems, industrial cyber‑security (IEC 62443, Perdue model), and substation networking (61850, PRP).
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving, verbal and written communication, presentation, and project‑management skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplined team, prioritise and multi‑task on multiple projects to agreed time‑scales.
