Overview
An exciting opportunity is available to join Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Medical & Safety Directorate.
The medical staff working for HIS are critical to ensuring our work is clinically relevant, impactful, and correct. The post holder will play a vital strategic role in ensuring HIS and the doctors working for HIS create the maximum value for the organisation and our doctors. You will support work across all directorates and programmes to ensure our work benefits from high-quality medical expertise, networking intelligence, and clinical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deputise for the Medical & Safety Director and work closely with them to ensure critical functions of HIS have access to necessary medical leadership and expertise, particularly in the regulation of Independent Healthcare and the Death Certification Review Service in Scotland.
2. Drive a consistent approach to clinical and care governance within HIS, ensuring programmes are underpinned by sound professional advice.
3. Ensure doctors within the organisation receive professional support.
4. Work externally with professional and regulatory bodies to forge strategic relationships and support improvements in care across health and social care services in Scotland.
Candidate Requirements
* Fully licensed and registered with the UK General Medical Council.
* On the GP or Specialist Register.
* Significant experience at senior management and clinical leadership levels within the NHS.
* Experience in providing leadership across organisations and outside your area of specialist clinical expertise.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of delivering system-level improvements.

The Medical & Safety Directorate was established in 2017 to support doctors and pharmacists in contributing to the improvement of health and social care quality. It provides leadership to support the medical and pharmacy communities in Scotland to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care that is evidence-based. The directorate offers professional leadership and support for all doctors and pharmacists and provides expert advice across Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
