Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse post within the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

The post holder will work within the Spinal Outpatients Department providing inpatient and outpatient services. You will be self-driven, striving to provide a high standard of nursing care.

Working with both NSIC Outpatients and In-patients within the Spinal Outpatients Department.


Main duties of the job

9. Assist in the daily organisation and management of Spinal Outpatient Clinics.
10. Regularly take charge of clinic sessions, as determined by the Department Sister and in line with clinic activities.
11. and preserve the patient’s privacy and dignity.
12. registration nurse training and for multi-disciplinary team training.
13. (SPOP) and out-patients admitted to wards.
14. and young people.
15. Participate in Clinical Supervision to enhance patient care.
16. To have a broad knowledge and understanding of all relevant Trust policies, and procedures.

17. Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN
18. Evidence of further continued professional development
19. Post qualification experience in relevant speciality
20. Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

21. High self-motivation plus ability to motivate other
22. Good time management skills
23. Ability to work required shifts
24. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate
25. Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload with supervision
26. Ability to solve problems and use initiative
27. Willingness to undergo training (e.g. medications)
28. Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
29. Ability to maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care Adaptable to change
30. Knowledge of Research based practice
31. Willingness to develop teaching skills
32. Awareness of the NHSE guidance of clinical governance in order to continuously improve quality of care e.g. quality, safety and ward audit standards
33. Knowledge of care planning, preceptorship, reflection and clinical supervision


Experience


Essential criteria

34. Clear interest in spinal cord injury
35. Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff
36. Awareness of current professional nursing issues
37. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit/quality
38. Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting


SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

39. Able to travel to other sites and off site as necessary Maybe required to work in other departments if requested to do so
