Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
You will work closely with and be supported by the onsite Regional Fetal Medicine team who provide care to women and their families undergoing high‑risk or problematic pregnancies requiring specialist care and expertise. You will also work closely and be supported by our lead Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who have a specialised interest in ultrasound.
We require staff with energy, excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and attitude; commitment and passion to deliver and improve the service to women centred care. We offer a highly supportive induction programme and exceptional ongoing in‑house and external training and development opportunities including Masters modules, audit and sub‑specialising in areas of interest. You would need a post graduate certificate in obstetrics and/or gynaecology ultrasound. Registered with the NMC, HCPC or Voluntary register for sonographers.
Flexible working may involve evenings and weekends (as part of normal working hours) dependent on the needs of the department.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound
* Appropriate Professional Registration e.g. HCPC, RCT or NMC Registration
* Appropriate relevant Degree or equivalent
* Appropriate post qualification experience in an ultrasound department
* Relevant clinical courses
* Completed the preceptorship and capability framework for sonographers’
* Quality assurance supervision and practice
* Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance including H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling
* Experience of teaching, mentoring and supporting colleagues training and development
* Be able to interpret clinician’s requirements, to recognise the urgency of ultrasound requests, prioritise requests and determine the appropriate scanning technique, ensuring that scans are performed in accordance with best practice and research‑based evidence
* To interpret scans and provide a comprehensive, independent, diagnostic report on the patient’s condition and make the appropriate diagnosis
* Leadership or management course or qualification or equivalent experience
* To be able to respond appropriately to distressed patients and staff and distressing circumstances e.g. suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death.
