We are looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable Practice Manager to join our welcoming team of dedicated military and civilian healthcare professionals and administrative staff located at Thorney Island Medical Centre, Baker Barracks, Thorney Island, Emsworth. The position offers 37 hours per week on a Fixed term appointment until 31st August 2026 due to maternity cover. Does this sound like the role for you? If so, we would love to hear from you! Strategic Command Transformation Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions. Job Description The Practice Manager (PM) will work as part of a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team within a Group Practice delivering general medical services and elements of occupational health to military personnel and trainees; the Group Practice is formed of six sites in the Portsmouth area and the PM may be required to work occasionally across these sites. The PM is to ensure that the Primary Healthcare team including the Primary Care Rehabilitation Facility (PCRF) has the necessary equipment, resources and information to enable them to deliver a safe and effective primary healthcare service to entitled personnel. The PM will have a key role in promoting a positive image of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) to its patients, the Chain of Command and other stakeholders. Person specification Main details of the role include but are not limited to: Ensure that all staff that work with in the medical centre and PCRF conform to the mandatory training requirements laid down by Surgeon/Director General (SG) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Supervise on a day to day basis the output of the administrative (Admin) staff and where appropriate act as line manager. Ensure that all staff are conversant with their duties; and the admin function has updated desk instructions to work from, which are reviewed and updated on a 6 monthly basis to reflect any changes in policy.
