Walton Lea Partnership comprises eight unique departments, each designed to offer meaningful, engaging, and educational opportunities tailored to the needs of our Learners. These departments—Arts and Wellbeing, Independent Living, Learner and Community Engagement, Crafts/Woodwork, Bike Refurbishment, Heritage Garden, Gift Shop, and Coffee/Tea Room—work collaboratively to ensure that every Learner has an enjoyable and enriching experience each day.

Across all areas, our focus is on building confidence, teaching essential life skills, and promoting independence, with the ultimate aim of supporting Learners into volunteer roles and supported employment. Our on-site Senior Management Team, Heads of Department, Support Workers, and Volunteers work together to maintain a learner-centric environment that prioritises safety, wellbeing, and personal development in everything we do.

• Productivity: Allowing our Learners to be active, engage and building their confidence.

• Life Skills: Encouraging our Learners to be independent and preparing them for adulthood.

• Volunteering: Providing Learners the opportunity to volunteer off-site about other facilities.

• Employment: The ultimate goal to help Leaners (that are able and willing) into sustained and supported employment.

Role Description

The Support Worker will provide high-quality care and support to adults with learning disabilities, promoting independence and enhancing their quality of life in a safe, person-centred environment through the engagement of various activities including arts and wellbeing, independent living, learner and community engagement, crafts and woodworks, bikes refurbishment, heritage garden, gift shop and coffee shop.Reporting to the Senior Management Team, the post holder will work directly with learners and long side support staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

• Learner Support: Provide compassionate, respectful assistance to Learners with diverse and sometimes complex needs, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.

• Safeguarding First: Embed safeguarding into all actions and report concerns immediately to Safeguarding support worker/Safeguarding Manager to ensure Learner welfare is always protected.

• Course Delivery: Lead and support approved engaging sessions tailored to individual needs and learning plans.

• Independence Skills: Encourage Learners to build life skills, confidence, and autonomy, preparing them for more independent living.

• Progress Reviews: Carry out and contribute to regular reviews that track Learner development and volunteer performance.

• Risk Awareness: Assess risks dynamically throughout the day, adjusting activities or environments to maintain safety for all.

• Respect Culture: Model and promote a culture of kindness, dignity, and mutual respect in every interaction.

• Effective Communication: Share relevant information with the team to support Learner care, ensuring open and professional dialogue.

• Behaviour Support: Respond calmly and professionally to behaviour challenges, helping Learners understand boundaries and self-regulation.

• Daily Recording: Maintain up-to-date written and digital records on Learner progress, attendance, and activity participation.

• Person-Centred Days: Deliver personalised, meaningful experiences for each Learner, ensuring each day has purpose and joy.

• Positive Role Model: Inspire others through professional conduct and values-driven behaviour, encouraging growth in Learners and colleagues alike.

• Challenge Poor Practice: Speak up when practices or behaviours do not align with the company’s Code of Conduct or values.

• Goal Support: Help Learners explore and work toward volunteering, skills development, and employment where appropriate.

• Volunteer Guidance: Support, mentor, and manage volunteers to ensure they contribute positively to Learner outcomes.

• Health & Safety: Follow all safety procedures and ensure the responsible use of tools and equipment, keeping everyone on-site protected.

• Activities Support: Coordinate Learner involvement in various activities including arts and wellbeing, independent living, learner and community engagement, crafts and woodworks, bikes refurbishment, heritage garden, gift shop and coffee shop.

Person Specification

Skills and abilities

• Foster a respectful and inclusive environment for Learners and colleagues.

• Strong ability to build trusting relationships in complex situations.

• Use dynamic risk assessment to ensure Learner and staff safety.

• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Apply good organisational skills and flexibility in a dynamic setting.

• Use initiative while being a positive team player with a growth mindset.

• Apply IT skills to support documentation and Learner development.

• Proven experience supporting learners in a variety of activities including crafts, horticulture and retail.

• NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or working towards it.

• Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities or complex care needs.

• Ability to deliver personal care with dignity and respect.

• Sound understanding of safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act.

• Calm, empathetic approach to managing challenging behaviours.

• Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

• Clean UK driving licence.

• Experience working in a Centre of Excellence or similar care-focused setting.

• First Aid and medication administration training.

• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

• High attention to detail with strong organisational ability.

Physical Requirements

• Capable of safely assisting with manual handling tasks.
