About the Role

The BDUK System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking a new Environmental Engineer to join our collaborative environment. The Environmental Engineering capability is dedicated to ensuring continued compliance with environmental legislation, policy and standards and in identifying, advising, mitigating and reducing environmental risks applicable to Boeing Products, Systems and Services. The role is for a detail-oriented professional who is able to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders and across disciplines.

In this role, the responsibilities of the Environmental Engineer will include but not limited to:

1. Assist with the integration of environmental management considerations within the design and development of Boeing Products, Systems and Services.

2. Provide support to technical lead environmental engineers with the development and implementation of environmental management strategies appropriate to each project or programme.

3. Develop environmental deliverables in accordance with each project or programme statement of work, including environmental management plans, registers of environmental standards, environmental features matrices, environmental case reports and hazardous materials reports.

4. Drive, report, review and refresh environmental objectives and targets.

5. Influence the selection design, usage and disposal of products and services through all relevant life-cycle phases.

6. Assist the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team on individual programmes in supporting the BDUK Environmental Management System and to comply with appropriate UK environmental legislation.

7. Develop platform sustainability plans and assist the Boeing Sustainability Team with the promotion of sustainability into UK programmes.

8. Collaborate with other Boeing, customer and supplier technical disciplines to ensure appropriate evidence is available to support the environmental management strategy.

9. Manage or support Boeing, customer and supplier environmental meetings.

10. Manage or support the flow down of environmental requirements to subcontractors and suppliers.

11. Review and approve supplier environmental management deliverables.

12. Manage or support internal, external and subcontractor/supplier audit activities and review changes for environmental impacts.

13. Respond to audit findings and observations, and develop corrective and preventative actions to address shortfalls.

14. Provide environmental management support to system safety engineering where required.

15. Manage or support in the development of environmental design practices and processes.

This position may require occasional UK or international travel.

Basic Skills and Qualifications

16. Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

17. Member of or working towards membership of a recognised UK environmental professional body (e.g. Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP)).

18. Experience of environmental management/engineering within aviation or other highly regulated industries.

19. Solid knowledge of environmental law, policy and industry standards (e.g. UK REACH, ISO 14001, Defence Standard 00-051 etc.).

20. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.

21. Proficient in MS Office Suite.

22. Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.

23. UK National status is required, and candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

24. Proven experience with environmental assessment techniques and processes, such as in the identification of environmental aspects and impacts and risk analyses.

25. Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently achieve on time delivery to first time quality.

26. Environmental auditing experience

Conflict of Interest:

Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company's Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.

Work Authorisation:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
