SALARY: £90,400 - £106,000
LOCATION(S): Edinburgh
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site
About this opportunity
We’re looking for a strong engineering leader to lead delivery within a multi‑disciplinary lab, ensuring high‑quality software is built, released, and runs as intended.
You’ll own the engineering agenda for workflow optimisation, driving improved zero‑touch payments outcomes by reducing failure demand and exceptions through PEGA workflow automation and the use of agentic AI and GenAI. As a passionate advocate for Engineering, you’ll represent the voice of engineers, proactively identify blockers, and help teams remove impediments, so they can deliver at pace. You’ll foster modern engineering practices and continuous improvement, using technology to unlock agility and deliver compelling customer and business outcomes efficiently. You’ll also play a key role in keeping the area safe, embedding resilience, security, and risk management into delivery while maintaining clear accountability for run and change.
What you’ll need
Domain + Lab outcomes
1. Experience across the payments domain, and a track record of delivering service optimisation through automation and efficiency outcomes.
2. Strong experience delivering workflow automation using PEGA (or comparable workflow/BPM tooling) in complex operational environments.
3. Proven, hands‑on experience applying agentic AI / GenAI to workflow optimisation to drive automation and reduce failure demand/exceptions.
Top technical skills
4. Expert experience in software design & development patterns, with the ability to set standards and direction for how teams build maintainable solutions.
5. Expert software development capability, with strong engineering fundamentals and modern delivery discipline.
6. Expert technical solution design experience, able to translate complex requirements into secure, resilient, operable end‑to‑end solutions.
Engineering leadership & ways of working
7. Experience providing software engineering oversight and leadership across teams, inspiring delivery while encouraging simplicity and building trust.
8. Strong engineering practice across quality and secure delivery (e.g., code quality, secure programming practices, CI/CD), with the ability to coach teams and embed effective development frameworks.
9. Experience working closely with Product Owner counterparts to ensure technology considerations are factored into decision making appropriately.
