Job Purpose



Reporting to the Refinery APU Lead you will support the delivery of the Refinery’s performance objectives within Quality, Environment, Safety & Health (QESH); cost management; technical budget delivery; engineering reliability and compliance; continuous improvement, housekeeping, capability, and team development. The role is integral to ensuring optimal daily performance whilst continuing to drive improvement activity.


Core Accountabilities

1. Safety leadership: developing a culture leading to zero lost time injuries and the delivery of all elements aligned with business goals.
2. Develop a people plan in your area with clear focus on leading, coaching and motivating a flexible and capable team who embody the British Sugar values and leadership model.
3. Provide day to day operational support to Shift Performance Manager as well as direct line reports & wider Refinery members to enable the achievement of objectives and delivery of operational plan.
4. Support the Refinery APU Lead, work collaboratively with Water Treatment Process Lead and other members of the Refinery Leadership team in delivering the S&OP plan.
5. Support capability across the Refinery in line with the site’s Factory of the Future plan.
6. Provide line leadership to a team of Process Technicians and Support Technicians.
7. Analyse factory performance data and recommend appropriate remedial action to ensure continuous optimisation of throughput, energy, extraction, process chemicals and product quality
8. Work in partnership with other Area Process Leads and technical support functions across the sites to ensure best practice is identified, captured, shared, and implemented across the business.
9. Working closely with relevant stakeholders, drive forward automation and improvement plans for the Refinery, ensuring our metrics embed the continuous improvement journey to support our factory of the future ambition.
10. Capability to develop a clear commercial understanding to drive performance.
11. Deputise for the Refinery APU Lead and support financial governance within budget requirements.

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

12. Experience of successfully leading high performing technical manufacturing teams.
13. Proven record of effective problem solving/fault diagnosis.
14. Continuous improvement mindset with a manufacturing excellence focus.
15. Budget and cost management experience.
16. Good communication/coaching/influence skills.
17. Strong IT skills - particularly MS Excel.
18. Ability to organise and prioritise.
19. Works on own initiative and ability to work as part of a team.
