Services are trauma‑informed, strengths‑based and designed to help women address needs across wellbeing, accommodation, finance, education, recovery, family relationships, social inclusion and more.You will be part of a dynamic, compassionate team committed to improving outcomes for women and strengthening local communities.
Your new role
As a Women's Specialist Criminal Justice Practitioner, you will provide holistic, gender‑specific support to women across the West Midlands, with a primary base between Birmingham and Sandwell. This is a varied and rewarding frontline role involving:
Delivering one‑to‑one sessions, group work and psychosocial interventions
Providing outreach support, including meeting women at the prison gate upon release
Helping participants identify their needs and develop personalised support plans
Advocating for women and accompanying them to community appointments
Working with partner organisations and community resources to strengthen support networks
Maintaining accurate case records, reports and updates for the National Probation Service
Ensuring safeguarding, risk assessments and professional boundaries are upheld
Supporting colleagues, contributing to team development and sharing best practice
Promoting the programme within the community and in custodial settingsThis is an agile role involving office‑based work, community delivery and occasional home working. Some prison in‑reach may also be required (subject to clearance).Full‑time hours: 37.5 per weekSalary: £26,278.98
What you'll need to succeed
You will thrive in this role if you bring:Qualifications & Experience
A relevant qualification (minimum NVQ Level 4/equivalent) in criminology, social care, health, probation, or similar
Experience working with women and with individuals facing complex or multiple needs
Experience of partnership working, confidentiality, safeguarding and structured procedures
Experience delivering group work and/or working within the criminal justice systemSkills & Attributes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations
Strong assessment, risk management and care‑planning skills
Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice and barriers affecting women in the justice system
Ability to work independently, manage competing demands and stay organised
Creativity, empathy and the ability to motivate and empower others
Strong IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Emotional resilience, self‑awareness and commitment to professional boundaries
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicleThis role is female‑only, as permitted under relevant legislation, due to the nature of the work. An enhanced DBS check will be required.
