The Palliative care team at Darent Valley Hospital consists of a consultant, a non-consultant grade doctor (specialty doctor) and 5.8 FTE experienced clinical nurse specialists, including a team lead and admin support. They provide a 9-5 seven day a week service, with one CNS on each day of the weekend. There are plans to increase the consultant complement.

The consultant is responsible for the establishment of guidelines and the supervision of the team's clinical practice.

There are regular educational sessions and meetings covering Case Presentation, Journal club, Histopathology joint meetings, General, Urological and Vascular X-ray meetings and Mammography Meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


A formal Job Plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director, on behalf of the Medical Director, within three months after the commencement date of the appointee. This will be signed by the Clinical Director and will be effective from the commencement date of the appointment. The Job Plan for the first three months will be agreed between you and the Directorate. The Job Plan will then be reviewed annually, following the Appraisal Meeting. The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a Consultant's duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year.
