Are you ready to start your career in a dynamic engineering environment?
As an Engineering Stores Assistant Apprentice at KAM you’ll play an important role in supporting the smooth operation of our Engineering Stores – the hub that keeps the Metrolink Tram fleet running.
You’ll complete a Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Operative qualification while gaining hands‑on experience in a busy, dynamic Engineering Stores environment. You’ll learn and apply the essential skills needed to support the Metrolink Tram fleet, combining classroom‑based learning with real workplace experience.
Working under the guidance of experienced team members you’ll develop your confidence and technical ability across a range of stores activities.
During your apprenticeship you will:
* Assist with the receipt, storage and issue of materials and components ensuring accuracy and efficiency at all times.
* Learn to maintain stock records and use a computerised Warehouse Management System (WMS) to manage inventory.
* Gain experience in handling deliveries including loading and unloading goods safely using mechanical and manual methods.
* Be trained in the safe use of Mechanical Handling Equipment such as forklifts and pallet trucks.
* Support the shipment of goods within the UK and overseas, completing correct documentation and following proper procedures.
* Develop an understanding of stock management techniques, monitoring levels and reporting any issues to your supervisor.
* Contribute to maintaining excellent housekeeping standards and a safe working environment, demonstrating KAM’s Zero Harm and Just Culture principles.
* Build knowledge of company compliance regulations and policies to ensure high standards of practice.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, providing a customer‑focused service to both internal and external customers.
* Promote and support an inclusive workplace culture, showing respect and professionalism in all interactions.
What you’ll bring:
We’re looking for someone with the aptitude to learn and the confidence to thrive in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment. This apprenticeship offers the chance to grow and develop within a supportive team while gaining valuable experience in Stock and Supply Chain Management. To succeed in this role you’ll bring:
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics at Grade 4 / C or above.
* A genuine interest in starting or developing a career in Stock and Supply Chain Management.
* A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and take on new challenges.
* Good communication skills – building strong working relationships is key to providing excellent service.
* Organisational skills – able to manage your workload effectively and work to deadlines.
* Teamwork and cooperation – a flexible team player who contributes to a supportive and collaborative work environment.
* Adaptability and flexibility – comfortable working in a changing environment and open to learning new processes.
* Computer literacy – ideally some experience using applications such as Microsoft 365 Word and Outlook (desirable but not essential).
* A full driving licence is preferred but not essential.

* Starting salary of £17,000 per annum.
* Full time contract, working 37.5 hours per week.
