Purpose and scope of the role
As Trunk Main Leakage Team Leader you will lead day‑to‑day field delivery for Central and North Wales, managing a team of 8–10 leakage engineers and operatives. You will coordinate leak detection and repair across multi‑site programmes for major UK water clients, supporting projects that typically range from local network campaigns to multi‑million‑pound leakage reduction contracts. Your daily activities include supervising field operations, carrying out risk assessments, producing status reports, driving performance improvements and ensuring compliance with technical procedures and the Company Integrated Management System. You will be allocated a company van and fuel card.
Your impact in this position
In the short term you will stabilise field delivery and improve safety and reporting. Over the medium term you will drive measurable reductions in NRW (non‑revenue water), optimise team productivity and develop capability through mentoring and structured training. In the longer term this role offers clear progression into wider operational or regional management within Tetra Tech’s Asset, Surveying and Inspection business, working on high‑profile water industry programmes and career development plans supported by formal training.
Core Capabilities Required For Success
* Proven ability to lead, motivate and performance‑manage a field team while maintaining high standards of customer service and safety. Operational delivery and technical competence
* Strong practical experience in leakage detection, network repair workflows, reporting and continuous improvement. Health, safety and compliance
* Demonstrable commitment to H&S, incident reporting, toolbox talks and management of site risk assessments. Stakeholder and client focus
* Clear communicator able to manage client expectations, deliver to KPIs and produce concise status updates. Data and IT proficiency
* Competent with Microsoft Office, field reporting systems and performance analysis to identify trends and drive improvements.
Qualifications and Training
Expected: Full UK driving licence; willingness to undertake mandatory drugs/alcohol screening and DBS checks; demonstrable H&S training (e.g. CSCS, IOSH or equivalent).
Desirable: Utilities/water distribution experience, confined space and traffic management certifications, formal supervisory or NVQ qualifications.
Work patterns & locations
Permanent, full‑time Monday–Friday core hours with requirement for occasional evenings, weekends and overtime; predominantly field‑based across Central and North Wales with regular office and client site attendance. Hybrid administrative working may be accommodated subject to operational needs.
