Research and Development (R&D) is central to all lens design, material, and process development, leading to new product and process opportunities. Development is based on in-house capabilities and collaborations with outside suppliers, academic partners, and consultants.
Job summary
We have an exciting permanent opportunity for an Analytical Scientist within our UK R&D Chemistry team. This role involves hands-on work, project participation, and collaboration with the wider R&D group. The scientist will focus on characterizing extractable constituents using HPLC, GC, LC-MS, and GC-MS, including method development and validation for organic and silicone-containing materials.
You will support the analytical team with equipment qualifications, maintenance, and hazardous waste disposal as per regulatory requirements.
Specific responsibilities
* Develop and validate HPLC and GC analytical methods to applicable standards (ISO17025, GLP)
* Manage multiple assignments simultaneously
* Design, develop, and execute experiments independently, troubleshooting as needed
* Analyze data, write technical reports, and prepare presentations
* Communicate project progress and issues effectively
* Stay updated with technological advances relevant to product development
* Contribute to continuous improvement and train junior team members
* Identify problems and propose solutions
* Collaborate with external partners when necessary

About you
Ideal candidates will work effectively in a team, demonstrate strong communication skills, and have experience including:
* BSc with 3+ years in Chemistry or related field, MSc with 2+ years, or PhD in Chemistry with no additional experience required
* Strong knowledge of Liquid and/or Gas Chromatography method development and validation (ISO17025, GLP)
* Experience with GC-MS and/or LC-MS preferred
* Ability to interpret technical material, write reports, and analyze data
* Knowledge of silicone chemistry and methacrylate monomers
* Proficiency in statistical techniques and MS Office tools
