Job Summary: Personal Assistant role providing one to one support for a happy and positive young adult with special needs in a family home. This is a rewarding position focused on building a meaningful bond while supporting daily routines, personal care, and companionship in a calm, supportive environment.
Working Pattern:
Monday: 4pm to 10pm
Tuesday: 4pm to 10pm
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Off
Friday: Off
Saturday: 10am to 10pm
Sunday: 4pm to 10pm
If you prefer, you can swap the Wednesday off with either Monday or Tuesday. This will be agreed before you start and will remain the same each week.
Note: There may be occasional opportunities to work additional paid hours on certain evenings. This will always be discussed and agreed in advance. On some shifts, you may work alongside another team member, providing two to one support rather than one to one care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Arrive on time to welcome the young adult home from college transport, typically between 4pm and 4.45pm
* Prepare and cook meals
* Administer medication accurately and responsibly
* Assist with feeding and encourage independent eating where appropriate
* Ensure glasses are kept clean
* Support with personal hygiene, including washing, dressing, and changing nappy pads
* Assist with mobility and wheelchair use
* Take her out on trips using walking routes, public transport, and the family's wheelchair accessible car
* Interact, play, and provide sensory engagement and companionship
* Carry out her daily bedtime routine, including body massage, singing, and sensory time
* Support her to sleep and monitor her via webcam until the end of the shift
* Prepare items for the following day, including college clothes and diary
* Personal phone use during shifts should be limited to ensure attentive and appropriate care
Essential Requirements:
* Full UK driving licence and confidence driving a wheelchair accessible vehicle
* This role involves providing personal care to a young woman. In line with the Equality Act 2010, applications are limited to female candidates due to an occupational requirement
* Physically fit and able to assist with personal care and mobility
* Non smoker
* Minimum of 3 years experience supporting a young person with disabilities (preferred)
* Eligible to work in the UK
Preferred Qualifications:
* Health and Safety certificate
* Enhanced DBS preferred
* Degree or qualification in Social Care, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field is desirable but not essential
