We invite applications for the above position, which is based at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen. This post has evolved as a result of the retirement of a member of the Consultant Team. The role is to provide Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant input at Major Trauma Centre in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) and also for inpatients at Neurorehabilitation Unit (NRU) at Woodend Hospital. There will also be sessional commitments at the outpatient clinics including for patients transitioning into adult services, patients with posture or movement disorders which includes managing patients with Botulinum Toxin injection and Baclofen pumps.
This post will join a vibrant team of Consultants providing a Rehabilitation Medicine service across a range of settings in Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and other community settings. The post holder will contribute to the existing Grampian Specialist Rehabilitation services. Indeed, the existing medical staff would be happy to consider re-allocation of duties within the Consultant team, according to candidates’ strengths and special interests.
The successful candidate will be joining a friendly medical team which works closely with specialist nursing colleagues and has well developed links with a wide range of AHP disciplines, including Neuropsychology, Prosthetics, Orthotics and the wheelchair service. We work with acute colleagues at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and have several Inpatient Rehabilitation Units at Woodend Hospital. There is a range of community work undertaken by the service. Our Department has several trainee medical staff, contributes to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching Programmes, and is engaged in research activity.
Aberdeen is a University City with one of the oldest Medical Schools in Europe and is the centre of the North Sea Oil Industry. It offers an excellent quality of life with diverse leisure activities, a high standard of schooling and is within easy reach of the Highlands for hill walking and skiing.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
