We are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1416 Mentor / Youth Worker to join our Learner Engagement Team at Peterborough College. This role is key to ensuring that our youngest learners experience high-quality education, feel supported, and are able to overcome barriers to engagement and achievement.
The Youth worker will be a full time (37 hours per week) position, working all year round.
Working closely with curriculum teams, Student Services, schools, families, and external partners, you will provide pastoral support and targeted interventions for learners aged 1416 who are accessing post-16 education. Using a range of youth work and mentoring strategies, you will nurture positive behaviour, improve attendance and retention, and help learners develop the confidence and skills they need to reach their full potential.
This is a varied and impactful role, combining one-to-one mentoring, small group work, safeguarding responsibilities, enrichment activity delivery, and involvement in college-wide engagement and recruitment events.
We are looking for someone with experience of: Working with young people in a mentoring, youth work, learning support or pastoral role
Supporting learners aged 1416, particularly those at risk of disengagement
Delivering group sessions and targeted interventions to re-engage learners
Identifying individual needs and developing appropriate, learner-centred responses
Managing and positively challenging behaviour using clear boundaries and college policies
Working collaboratively with curriculum teams, student services, schools, and external agencies
Supporting attendance, retention, and positive learner outcomes through proactive intervention
Handling safeguarding concerns appropriately and working within safeguarding frameworks
Using IT systems (including Microsoft Office and student data systems) to maintain accurate records
Providing advice, guidance, and advocacy for young people and their families
