Our Stroke Unit at Broomfield is a 30 bedded ward. We admit patients from the emergency department or TIA clinic who have had an acute stroke or TIA and work closely as a multi-disciplinary team to ensure excellent stroke care is given, guided by the Royal College of Physicians National Stroke Guidelines 2016.
As a Charge Nurse, you will be expected to take charge of the shift, ensuring patient and staff safety. Work as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team to ensure stroke specific care is promoted and facilitate discharge planning. You will complete administrative duties including undertaking appraisals, sickness management, staff welfare and deputising for the Senior Sister in their absence.
The trust is committed to supporting and developing its' staff so opportunities for training and other development activities will be provided. All nurses working within the stroke service have the opportunity to complete comprehensive stroke specific competencies that provides an in depth knowledge of evidence based stroke care. The stroke unit actively participates in Stroke research.
Main duties of the job
To facilitate the daily running of the acute stroke unit whilst maintaining patient safety and effective flow.
Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Governance systems in the ward/department relating to Risk Management, Health and Safety and Controls Assurance.
Promote and develop the use of evidence based practice to improve the outcomes of patient care within the acute stroke pathway. Ensure all Trust Visions of care standards are adhered to.
