There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Group Head Office, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, is looking to recruit an Assistant Company Secretary to join the Division’s Legal & Co Sec team. This is a fixed-term contract from May 2026 to December 2027.
The Role
The role of Assistant Company Secretary supports and reports to the Group Deputy Company Secretary with the following key responsibilities (and others as required):
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
1. Ownership of the preparation and production of Bellway p.l.c.’s Annual Report and Accounts, including project managing, drafting, data collection, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with best practices and statutory and legal requirements.
2. Preparation of Board and Committee meeting packs and papers
3. Preparation for Bellway’s Annual General Meeting and ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance
4. Monitoring and reviewing compliance training, reviewing and drafting company policies and updating the relevant internal records
5. Preparing and releasing London Stock Exchange announcements
6. Filing statutory forms and returns at Companies House
7. Reviewing and maintaining oversight of the Group’s Intellectual Property
8. Leading charitable engagement activities across the Group, working closely with Bellway’s two national charity partnerships and divisional charity co-ordinators
9. Liaising and supporting the divisions with company secretarial queries
Experience, Qualifications and Skill
Experience
10. Extensive experience of company secretarial work, ideally in a listed business, including annual report production experience
Qualifications and Training
11. Qualified to degree level
12. Member of the Chartered Governance Institute
Skills and Aptitude
13. Able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise work efficiently
14. Excellent drafting skills to draft legal and board reports to deadlines
15. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
16. Resilient and resourceful
17. Able to work on own initiative as part of a small team

18. Willing to be flexible in respect to day-to-day duties and hours worked
19. Ability to travel to development sites, including the divisional office
