Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England.

Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the Role

As a Group Worker, you will play an integral role in supporting individuals affected by drug and alcohol misuse across all stages of their recovery journey. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will deliver collaborative recovery planning, structured group work and evidence-based interventions that support engagement, reduce harm and promote long-term, self-sustained recovery. The role combines direct delivery with partnership working, professional development and a strong focus on quality and outcomes.

You will:

1. Provide recovery planning and case management, supporting individuals from initial assessment and engagement through structured treatment and into sustained recovery

2. Design, develop and deliver innovative, structured recovery groups that promote progression, motivation and personal responsibility

3. Deliver medium to high-intensity psychosocial interventions in group settings, including Motivational Interviewing, ITEP, CBT-SBNT and MET

4. Contribute to the preparation, monitoring and review of individual recovery plans, including risk assessment where required

5. Proactively identify and engage service users suitable for group work using information systems and collaborative discussions with colleagues

6. Work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams, families and external agencies to support holistic, recovery-focused outcomes

7. Participate in training, supervision, monitoring and evaluation to ensure safe, effective and high-quality service delivery

About You

You are a committed and compassionate professional with a strong interest in recovery-focused practice and group-based interventions. You bring an understanding of substance misuse and harm reduction approaches, alongside the ability to build positive, therapeutic relationships and work collaboratively within a team. You are organised, reflective and motivated to continually develop your skills in line with best practice.

You will bring:

8. A relevant professional qualification (or willingness to work towards NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care)

9. Experience or knowledge of substance misuse service delivery and recovery planning models

10. A good understanding of harm reduction approaches and recovery-oriented practice

11. Experience of, or a strong interest in, designing and delivering structured group work interventions

12. Knowledge of psychosocial approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, ITEP, CBT-SBNT and MET

13. Strong communication and engagement skills, with the ability to motivate and support individuals in group settings

14. A values-led approach, demonstrating honesty, commitment and creativity in your work
