Overview

This role is part of the Strategic Design and Transition Programme, working around the Independent Water Commission’s report recommendations, shaping the future of the EA, and ensuring environmental protection and sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, balanced, and evidence‑based advice to support future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, especially the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA and other regulators to align thinking and bring others along.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while keeping pace in a fast‑moving environment.
* Take a flexible approach and assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
* Act as an active team member, creating conditions for a high‑performing, agile, and resilient team.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and the ability to act strategically.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, translating complex information into simple, targeted advice on short notice.
* Experience influencing across boundaries and at all levels.
Team
You will join a small, motivated team working directly with the Strategic Design and Transition Programme Director and Deputy Directors. The team is still forming, but you can expect a welcoming, engaging, and rewarding environment with strong support for personal development.
Additional Information
* Location: EA Office base; national role – flexible working location.
* Some travel, occasionally overnight stays.
* Contract length: Up to 12 months.
