Overview

It’s a fantastic time to work for the Environment Agency as we tackle the climate emergency. You will support the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Improvements Portfolio, coordinating project and programme work with a portfolio value of over £150m over the next three years. You will help inform changes we deliver to protect communities and businesses from flooding.

As a member of the Improvements Portfolio team, you will start up and inform new projects, support live projects, assist our project managers, and strengthen relationships with the Portfolio Management Office. This role is suitable for someone with data analytics and/or project management skills seeking experience at programme/portfolio level. The role requires participation in incident response as part of our operating model, with training provided and potential additional pay. Flexible and blended working arrangements are available.

This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship.


Responsibilities

* Start up and inform new projects; help assure live projects and support project managers.
* Build and maintain relationships with the Portfolio Management Office; contribute to improving and embedding portfolio management and data practices.
* Contribute to data-informed decision making to support delivery outcomes.
* Respond to incidents (usually virtually) as part of business continuity; participate in incident training and receive full support for the role.
* Support delivery of improvements across the FCRM directorate and contribute to national and area team initiatives.


Experience/Skills / Qualifications

* Formal project/programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with strong data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI/Tableau (or similar) desirable.
* Experience in a project support role within a complex organization using Agile and waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organizational skills for regular governance activities (meetings, agendas, minutes).
* Financial data management and project planning skills are desirable.
* Ability to build credibility and collaborate across the business; proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
* Ability to work with uncertainty and develop innovative solutions.
