Nuclear Structural Integrity Stress Engineer

Frazer‑Nash Consultancy invites applications for the Nuclear Structural Integrity Stress Engineer position.

Title: Nuclear Structural Integrity Stress Engineer
Salary range: £50,000 to £65,000 pa depending on experience
Location: Glasgow, Bristol, Burton on Trent, Gloucester, Leatherhead, Manchester, Plymouth (flexible hybrid working, with time split between the office and working from home)
Closing date: 25th January (the role may close earlier if sufficient applications are received)

We are seeking engineers experienced in assessing the structural integrity of components for the nuclear industry. You will conduct strength, fatigue (low‑cycle and high‑cycle), creep and defect tolerance assessments of safety‑critical parts using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods. Your work will support new designs, operational problem solving, and life‑extension justification for existing assets.

You will also have the opportunity to deliver and lead projects across Frazer‑Nash’s portfolio, supporting customers in defence, energy and transport. Projects vary from a few weeks to many years, and you may manage several simultaneously. You will interact with clients to understand requirements, develop solution approaches, and deliver insights.

Although primarily technical, strong interpersonal skills are essential. You will make structured decisions, solve problems, and show initiative and ownership. Reporting to your Group Leader, you will be accountable for your work and supported by experienced engineers when needed. You will also mentor junior teammates and contribute to capability development.


Requirements

* A degree in engineering or equivalent.
* Technical knowledge in mechanical/structural engineering.
* Experience with Finite Element Analysis (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys or LS‑Dyna).
* Experience with failure mechanisms such as strength, fatigue (low‑cycle and high‑cycle), creep and fracture.
* Experience with codes and standards such as ASME III, ASME VIII, API 579, BS 7608, BS 7910, R5/R6.

Additional advantageous experience (not essential):

* Technical consultancy environment.

Required certification: pre‑employment screening and UK National Security Vetting clearance.
