The post offered is that of Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry (10PA), working in the Haringey East Locality Team. The team is aligned to the Primary Care GP Locality in the East of the Borough. This is a substantive position and is becoming available due to the current postholder moving to our Trust’s Adult ADHD Service. The post is subject to the annual job planning process agreed under the New Consultant
Contract.

BEH manages the renowned North London Forensic Services (NLFS), which was rated as 'Outstanding' by the CQC. This service treats and cares for people within the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorder services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services and mental health liaison services in NMUHT.
This post attracts a recruitment and retention premium of £5000 in addition to the standard pay and a relocation expenses of £8,000 (Based on Trust's policy)
Main duties of the job
You will be a full-time consultant within the team, working alongside another 2 full-time Consultants, one of whom is a substantive senior consultant psychiatrist in the trust.
The East team members collectively have years of experience and local knowledge of working structure in Haringey. Each consultant working in the team works with specific GP practices, enabling them to develop close working relationships with their primary care networks.
Consultants working in the East Team will hold a caseload of not care-coordinated clients (who are stable and non-complex) who will be linked with key workers over time. The current caseload of care coordinated clients (under CPA) for the East Core is currently 757, divided into North East PCN (286), N15 PCN (255) and Welbourne PCN (287).
The current caseload includes about 5 on CTOs, 3 MOJ patients. There are appropriately 12-15 new referrals per week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership for the Haringey East Locality Team. The post-holder will be expected:
* To manage an established caseload of patients on CPA, many of whom use medication
* To contribute to the management of non-CPA clients in collaboration with colleagues from psychological therapies service streams and other staff groups working in the team
* To act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for the clients of the East Locality Team treated on a Community Treatment Order (CTO, S17A MHA) under your PCN.
* To contribute to the assessment of newly referred cases per month and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines
* To comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures
* To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work
* To supervise and facilitate learning to medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care
* To participate in the trust-wide day-time consultant psychiatrist second on-call rota for Section 136 suite (1:32) and the Haringey consultant psychiatrist on-call rota (1:32).
* To participate in the weekly team meeting and undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.
* To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.
* As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.
General expectations / external duties
* To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed with the medical director and in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures.
* To ensure that junior doctors working with them are compliant with the Working Time Directive.
* To comply with procedures whereby doctors report concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues.
* To comply with the principles of practice laid out by the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
* To demonstrate compliance with legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act, The Children Act
* To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
* To participate annually in a job plan review with the Haringey Clinical Director and the Haringey Service Director.
* To attend and participate in the academic program of the Trust, including lectures and seminars of the internal CPD program.
* To comply with the regulations of the Royal College of Psychiatrists on Continuing Medical Education (CPD).
* To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
* To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
* To comply with confidentiality as advised by professional and Department of Health Guidelines.
* To comply with proper and safe discharge procedures for in-patients e.g. in line with Department of Health Guidelines on Discharge and Caring for People: The Care Program Approach.
* To comply with Trust procedures that involve users in their care.
* To comply with Trust procedures with regard to responsibility to carers.
* To commit to ensuring that people from all ethnic groups have equitable access to appropriate services.
* To ensure successful multi-disciplinary working.
* To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
* To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the services and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.
