About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Housing Policy and Procurement Officer to join a Maidenhead-based local authority. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong knowledge of local authority housing responsibilities and a passion for supporting social housing services through effective policy, strategy, and commissioning work.
This role is central to the development, review, and delivery of key housing policies and procedures. You will work across areas such as allocations, homelessness, domestic abuse, refugee pathways, and wider social housing responsibilities, ensuring that the council’s policies remain robust, compliant, and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake social housing policy and project work across a range of service areas.
* Develop new policies, procedures, and strategies, and update existing ones in line with legislation and service needs.
* Conduct research, prepare reports, and analyse data to support decision-making.
* Work independently on focused tasks requiring strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Support commissioning and procurement activities within the housing service.
* Participate in consultation activities, including occasional face-to-face engagement with service users.
* Undertake site visits independently when required.
* Contribute to council meetings, public consultations, and external partnership sessions (some outside normal working hours).
Skills & Experience Required
* Strong understanding of local authority housing responsibilities and relevant legislation.
* Experience in one or more operational housing areas (e.g., homelessness, allocations), with broader awareness of the social housing sector.
* Ability to work with initiative and manage a varied project portfolio.
* High levels of mental agility and focus, with the ability to meet tight timescales and performance outcomes.
* Excellent literacy, numeracy, IT, and project management skills.
* Ability to produce high-quality written work including policies, briefings, and reports.
* Emotional resilience when working with sensitive policy areas (e.g., domestic abuse, refugee support, homelessness).
Working Arrangements
* Primarily office-based with some remote working depending on service needs.
* Independent site visits required on occasion.
* Attendance at external meetings and some out-of-hours work (e.g., committee meetings, consultation events).
