Posted: 16 February
Offer description

A well-regarded and supportive 11–18 secondary school in the Ipswich area is seeking a committed Early Career Teacher of History to join its established Humanities faculty. This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT to begin their teaching career in a school that values strong subject knowledge, thoughtful pedagogy and sustained professional development.

The Opportunity

You will teach History across Key Stages 3 and 4, following a carefully sequenced curriculum that prioritises chronology, historical thinking and extended writing. The department places strong emphasis on source analysis, interpretation and debate, helping students develop confidence in forming and articulating well-evidenced arguments.

Schemes of learning and assessment materials are shared across the department, giving ECTs a solid framework while still allowing space to develop their own teaching style. Lessons are designed to be intellectually challenging but accessible, supporting progress for learners of all abilities.

ECT Support & Development

This school has a strong track record of developing Early Career Teachers and provides a structured, supportive induction including:

* A reduced teaching timetable during the induction period

* A dedicated subject mentor with regular coaching and feedback

* Weekly ECT sessions focused on classroom practice and pedagogy

* Opportunities to observe experienced History and Humanities teachers

Support is practical and developmental, with a focus on building confidence and consistency in the classroom.

The School

This is a calm, inclusive secondary school with a strong sense of community and clear behaviour systems. Students are respectful, engaged and respond well to consistent expectations. Leadership is visible and approachable, with a clear commitment to staff wellbeing and professional trust.

The school serves a diverse local community and prides itself on creating an environment where both students and staff feel supported and valued.

About You

The successful candidate will:

* Hold QTS (or be on track to complete QTS) in History

* Have strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for historical enquiry

* Be reflective, organised and open to feedback

* Value collaboration and professional learning

* Be keen to contribute to enrichment and wider school life

Why This Role?

* Excellent mentoring and induction for ECTs

* Supportive, experienced Humanities department

* Clear systems and manageable workload

* A positive environment to grow and develop as a teacher

This role is ideal for a History ECT seeking a confident and well-supported start to their teaching career.
