The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, is looking to recruit 2 part-time Assistant Youth Support Workers to work in the South of Lancashire, specifically in Chorley Districts. One role is 9 hours across 3 evenings per week; the other is 6 hours across 2 evenings per week. The post is evening work – usually between 6:30-9:30pm across two or three evenings. The Service contributes to the prevention and early intervention/early help agenda for Lancashire County Council, enabling young people to succeed by providing high quality informal education opportunities to promote personal and social development. It supports young people who are challenged in education, their communities or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.
Responsibilities
* Assist in delivering youth work opportunities in centres, partner buildings and in the community, including street-based work.
* Work with other youth work staff and volunteers to maximise access to social and personal development and learning opportunities for young people.
* Initiate and develop relationships with 12- to 19-year-olds and up to 25-year-olds with vulnerabilities, delivering youth work responses underpinned by the four cornerstones of youth work: equality, participation, education and empowerment.
* Deliver youth work that focuses on personal and social development as an educational process to help young people understand themselves, their community and the world.
* Support core youth work activities in Lancashire, including detached/outreach work, SEND work (12-19, up to 25 for SEN), safe spaces and targeted youth clubs; participate in district youth councils and broader youth work initiatives.
* Contribute to enhanced programmes such as LGBTQ+ groups or issue-based groups and mental health support.
* Participate in holiday provision during non-term time (Holiday and Food programmes).
Qualifications and Requirements
* As part of the role, you may be required to undertake a Level 2 Youth Work qualification; if not already qualified, Lancashire County Council will support you in completing this in terms of time and cost.
* Enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
* Please ensure you have uploaded and attached your supporting statement to evidence how you meet the criteria for the role, using the person specification document. The panel may be unable to shortlist you for interview without this evidence, not just your CV.
* The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). If successful, you will be required to apply to the DBS for a disclosure.
