Full time: 35 hours per week

Open-Ended (permanent)

Moray House School of Education and Sport (MHSES) is seeking a UE07 Research Portfolio Manager to provide effective leadership and expertise in pre- and post-award funding for the School’s Research, Engagement and Impact (REI) Service, to researchers and other staff across the School.

We are open to considering flexible working patterns and requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) combining a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The Opportunity:

As a key member of the School’s REI team, the post-holder will be responsible for the organisation, management, development and operation of the School’s funding pre- and post-award research activities and to support and enhance academic research activity.

To provide professional expertise, advice and management information in relation to research activities to key School role holders, academic and professional services staff.

To contribute to the development and implementation of MHSES research strategy, to increase opportunities for academic staff to develop bids and effectively manage research awards.

To lead on a series of initiatives to improve service or researcher experience in pre-award bid development and post-award processes.

To be proactive in advocating a positive, supportive research culture in the School.

Your skills and attributes for success:

1. Previous experience of supporting and developing funding applications with an in-depth knowledge of relevant funding opportunities and award criteria by various research funding bodies
2. Strong financial management skills and thorough knowledge of managing all aspects of pre- and post-award grant administration
3. Familiarity with governance, risks and compliance from multiple perspectives (staff, researchers, project participants, employers and funders)
4. High level of initiative and excellent influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to feed into, encourage and implement strategic decisions to support the evolving needs of MHSES’s academic community
5. Demonstrable ability to empower and motivate staff, with a commitment to collaborative team working and supporting development goals. Line management experience.
