Locum consultant in Neonatal medicine

The closing date is 17 March 2026

This is an exciting opportunity to join a first-class team providing neonatal intensive care at UCLH. UCLH is a very busy tertiary level neonatal unit which has a reputation for providing excellence of care for extremely preterm infants, neurocritical care for term infants and care for infants antenatally diagnosed with congenital cardiac abnormalities and other complex anomalies, sharing on‑going care with Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated colleague to join us as a fixed term 8PA locum for a 12 month period. This would give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop their own specialist interest, gain neonatal consultant experience and be part of an evolving team with wide ranging interests including respiratory medicine, cardiology, neurology and neurocritical care, infection, nutrition and neurodevelopment.

We would particularly invite those with experience in neonatal echocardiography and neonatal cardiology to apply, as we are looking to increase the numbers of our neonatal consultant team with cardiology experience, but this is not an essential requirement. However, anyone applying would need to be open to developing this role in post.

CV required for application.

Main duties of the job

* To deliver excellence in neonatal intensive care, special care and transitional care working collaboratively and consistently with other consultant colleagues
* To contribute to the on call rota (pro‑rata for 8 PAs, approximately 1:12)
* To develop a specialist interest relevant to their areas of expertise
* To support the neonatal cardiology service or develop the skills to be able to do this
* To support the counselling of families who have an infant with a fetal abnormality on the fetal medicine unit
* To contribute to the wide‑ranging multidisciplinary follow up
* To assist with the support, training and educational supervision of trainees and fellows working within the service
* To contribute to support medical student, ANNP and midwifery teaching
* To potentially support the provision of private maternity care as part of a rota for private, consultant led NIPE
* To support a culture of safety and robust clinical governance on the neonatal unit and the wider Women’s Health Division
* To demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams, the Trust and when participating in national or local initiatives
* To work collaboratively with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team and the neonatal network
