About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to take charge of all our Fleet Engineering activities, ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our fleets. This critical role will lead the Fleet Technical Services Fleet Engineering team, drive the efficiency of our vehicle maintenance approach, provide expert technical support to our production teams and third‑party maintenance providers, and identify and implement vehicle improvements that enhance safety, reduce costs, and improve maintainability.
Key responsibilities
* Line management of the Fleet Engineering team
* Own all Fleet Engineering activities and vehicle maintenance documentation
* Ensure EMR’s fleets meet safety, reliability, availability, and customer performance standards
* Provide professional engineering support to EMR Production via effective maintenance documentation
* Ensure compliance with all standards and regulatory requirements
* Lead and manage engineering elements of fleet projects through the Engineering Change process
* Plan long‑term resource requirements to support strategic engineering changes
* Support the day‑to‑day operation of the Regional Fleets
* Promote and implement innovation across the Fleet Function, integrating best practices and digital solutions
* Deputise for Head of Fleet when required
About you
* Chartered Engineer status (Electrical or Mechanical)
* Strong knowledge of railway standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements
* Extensive experience with railway traction and rolling stock systems
* A track record of success in senior leadership roles within technical or operational environments
* The ability to lead, inspire and motivate large teams with clarity and purpose
* Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and numerical
* Strong influencing skills, capable of engaging effectively at all levels, both internally and externally
* Analytical thinking with the ability to interpret data and apply the right corrective actions
