Learning Support Assistant Location: Peterlee Working hours: 8:30am –4:30pm Contract type: Long term, immediate start The Role Leader Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our experienced and supportive team. A well-established specialist school providing education and care for children and young people aged 2–19 with a wide range of special educational needs, including complex learning difficulties, autism, communication needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, and physical disabilities. Responsibilities Deliver 1:1 and small group support aligned with individual learning plans. Assist in differentiated teaching across the curriculum. Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to staff. Promote independence and positive learning behaviours. Build supportive relationships with pupils. Support the development of communication, social, and life skills. Implement behaviour strategies in line with school policies. Provide emotional support within a safe and nurturing environment. Candidate Requirements Essential: Experience supporting children or young people (ideally in SEN), with a strong understanding of additional needs and inclusive practice. Excellent communication skills, patience, empathy, teamwork, and a firm commitment to safeguarding are required. Desirable: A relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), experience with autism or complex needs, knowledge of alternative communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton), and training in safeguarding, first aid, or behaviour support.
