Senior Communications and Policy Manager – Interim opportunity
Location: Solihull – 2 days office/3 days home
Salary: Up to £70,000 (can be day rate equivalent or as FTC)
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced communications specialist to work in a role that makes a real impact, within an organization at the forefront of skills for a greener world.
Our client is the voice of the sector, working with members, government, and regulators to address skills challenges in the utilities sector. They provide membership, assurance, and skills solutions to help employers attract, develop, and maintain a skilled workforce.
As the Senior Communications and Policy Manager, you will operate at Group level, reporting to the CEO and collaborating with sales, membership, marketing teams, and other senior stakeholders to develop and execute a robust communications plan for the upcoming five-year strategy, launching in October. You should be comfortable engaging with high-level stakeholders, including government leaders.
Your responsibilities include:
* Developing and implementing comprehensive external and internal communication strategies.
* Creating thought leadership content, white papers, securing speaking opportunities, and gaining media coverage.
* Managing communications across web, video, social media, PR, and events.
* Producing policy documents, managing consultation responses, and handling policy inquiries.
* Preparing communication materials for political conferences and networking events.
* Positioning the company and responding to key skills and sector policy issues at various government levels, ensuring message consistency.
Preferred background and experience:
* Proven experience in a senior communications and policy role.
* Experience in the public sector, utilities, independent training providers, or similar sectors; experience with awarding organizations is a plus.
* Expertise in external communications, external affairs, and policy development.
* Ability to confidently present at high-profile events, including government briefings.
* Strong relationship-building skills and influential communication abilities.
* Availability to work from Solihull office two days a week with flexibility for travel.
This role is initially interim for about 6 months, with options for a fixed-term contract or day rate freelancing, and potential for permanent placement for the right candidate.
