About the role
Our technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and the team's operatives. Technicians specialise in a range of disciplines and for this role you’ll become a specialist in Signalling & Telecoms. You’ll be working with equipment including signals that control when trains can run, level crossings, and points systems. With your willingness to learn, you’ll develop a huge range of technical skills across manual, electrical and digital equipment.
Responsibilities
Work outside in all conditions, day or night, carrying out demanding manual work often involving transport of kit across tricky terrain. Be safety‑focused, respectful of rules, and a team player while working near moving trains at high speed. Lead the team when asked, ensure the team has the right competencies, deliver work safely, check safety standards, and challenge any potential risks.
Qualifications and Skills
* Leadership: Lead, motivate, and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
* Effective communicator: Deliver clear instructions to the team and other colleagues.
* Technical skills: Knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the discipline you apply for.
* Safety: Role model safe behaviours, arrange and implement safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations.
* Problem solver: Persistently find safe and effective solutions, keep up to date with new standards, procedures and instructions.
* Willingness to learn: Continuously develop skills and competencies relevant to the discipline.
* Relevant qualification: Ideally hold an NVQ Level 1 or 2 linked to the discipline, or equivalent experience.
Requirements
* Shift pattern: Technician roles involve days, nights, and weekends.
* Outdoor working: Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
* Safe working: Subject to drug and alcohol testing, medical assessment, BPSS checks, hearing and eyesight examination.
* Driving licence: Category B licence required to drive Network Rail vehicles.
* Commute: Must be within a 60‑minute commute of the working site.
* On‑call: There may be a requirement to work on call if you opt to take the standard maintenance contract.
