Patient Safety Co-ordinator

Join our dynamic Clinical Governance team dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safe, kind, and outstanding care across the Trust. As an important contributor to Patient Safety, you will author patient safety training, support investigations, and work with teams to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Your expertise will help shape policies, deliver training, and support executive decision-making in patient safety.

About You: You bring excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex qualitative information. With report writing and policy development experience, you understand NHS governance and patient safety frameworks. Educated to degree level or with equivalent relevant experience, you excel in collaborative environments and are passionate about improving patient outcomes through effective governance.


Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Patient Safety Manager, you will:

Support Patient Safety Investigations, including writing reports, managing administration, and gathering evidence.

Maintain the Trust's Patient Safety Incident Response Plan.

Help coordinate Trustwide 'Safety Wednesday' meetings to promote patient safety awareness.

Provide leadership and assistance with the implementation of patient safety initiatives.

Collaborate with the Patient Safety Specialist to develop and deliver training, including producing supporting materials.

Update training programmes to ensure compliance with policies, best practices, and legislation.

Contribute to the development of patient safety policies aligned with national standards and CQC requirements.

Provide specialist support to clinical teams and quality management in delivering a Trust-wide approach to governance and patient safety.

Please note that Sheffield Children's uplift pay to meet the Real Living Wage, which is £12.60 per hour.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
* Educated to degree level in a subject relevant to clinical governance and risk, or equivalent experience


Experience

* Experience in interpreting policy and legislation
* Exposure to risk management and / or clinical governance
* An understanding of audit and quality assurance
* Project Management


Knowledge & Skills

* Knowledge of national Patient Safety Strategies
* Knowledge of clinical risk management frameworks, legislation and policies
* Ability to draft reports, procedures and policies
* Demonstrates knowledge of principles of confidentiality, Data Protection and Freedom of Information
* Demonstrates knowledge of the role of regulators e.g. NHS Improvement, Care Quality Commission, CCG and the Health and Safety Executive
* Good written and oral communication skills in addition to excellent presentation skills
* Ability to produce and deliver effective presentations and teaching packages
* Ability to define, retrieve and correlate data
* Excellent negotiation skills with an ability to work constructively with professional and managerial staff
* Ability to assimilate, analyse and present complex/ sensitive or contentious data to different audiences
