We are looking for 2 candidates (each 22.5 hours) to support the existing Lead Midwife caring for those with mental health concerns.
You will be based at either Basingstoke or Winchester Hospitals and work 3 days per week.
You must be a registered midwife with the NMC with current UK experience.
Main duties of the job
* To lead and supervise the day‑to‑day assessment of pregnant and postnatal women in relation to their mental health needs, implementing plans of care and evaluating their effectiveness.
* To work closely with the Head of Midwifery, Antenatal, Postnatal and Community Clinical Matrons, Named Midwife Safeguarding Children and Obstetricians; being a source of information and guidance regarding policy and protocols relating to Perinatal Mental Health and the impact on women and their families. Liaise with Perinatal Mental Health Services, Community Mental Health Services and partner agencies to ensure that women with severe mental illness are appropriately managed in the perinatal period.
* Support and develop midwifery colleagues in implementing plans of care.
* Promote excellent professional practice which promotes the role of the perinatal mental health midwives within maternity services and with associated partner agencies.
* Be responsible for maintaining and disseminating local and national guidance relating to maternal mental health in the perinatal period.
* Act as a source of expert specialised knowledge and clinical expertise in relation to mental health practice.
* To provide clinical leadership and support to health professionals in the event of a mental health crisis.
* Participate in hospital on‑calls – minimum 6 per year.
Training and Qualifications
* Registered midwife
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Evidence of CPD
* Registered mental health nurse
* Evidence of postgraduate study
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience of supporting women with complex mental health needs
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
* Experience of working in all areas of maternity services
* Experience in writing complex plans for women with mental health needs
* Experience in a similar role
* Experience in audit and guideline writing
Skills and Ability
* Good time‑management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
* Articulate with advanced writing and verbal communication skills and ability to write reports
* Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows‑based operating environment
* Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
