The purpose of the role

As part of the Operations Department the post holder will share responsibility for creating a highly positive and solution focused working culture reflecting the organisational values, culture, and vision as part of a whole centre team.

The housekeeping team will ensure that members and customers experience a facility that is clean and presented to the highest standard in line with the expectations set out in the Visit Britain standards. To work closely with the Health Care Support, Hospitality Team and Wellbeing Support Team to ensure a positive member experience.

Main accountabilities

Undertake daily cleaning and deep cleaning tasks within all rooms in the Centre including public areas, toilets and the dog spending area as instructed by the Housekeeping Coordinator and in accordance with departmental procedures such as COSHH, Health and Safety and Infection Control to provide a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.

Undertake laundry tasks and operate all laundry equipment in line with manufacturers operating guidelines and housekeeping procedures including COSHH, Health and Safety and Infection Control to ensure linen and personal clothing belonging to members, other beneficiaries and the Charity is laundered to the highest standards.

Lock unoccupied rooms and ensure passageways are always free from obstructions when cleaning communal areas for the safety and security of members and other customers and their belongings.

Ensure all paperwork required is completed and kept up to date such as self-checking books, various checklists, and logs regarding laundry items to ensure quality assurance and best practice is followed.

Clear, clean, and set up function rooms relating to requests from the Centre Team and ensure rooms are ready for catering preparations and high standards are maintained.

Undertake the disposal of waste, compacting and recycling all relevant items such as cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, and cans in line with housekeeping procedures to ensure refuse is disposed of responsibly and to assist with environmental sustainability.

Ensure member or customer personal requests relating to room requirements, ironing or laundry of clothes are reviewed and completed in a timely manner.

Other dimensions of role

To work on a shift pattern that may include weekends, with flexibility needed.

Undertake relevant internal and external learning, as agreed with your line manager.

Engage actively with our volunteers as appropriate and within the scope of the post.

Keep up to date with required safeguarding training and promote a culture in which safeguarding is openly discussed and can be readily reported.

Undertake any reasonable tasks from time to time at the line manager's request, as may be deemed appropriate within the scope of the post.

The post holder is required to manage their own workload, prioritise tasks accordingly and make decisions, with an input from the Housekeeping Coordinator as and when required.

To be pro-active and work collaboratively with all teams within this Centre, our sister Centre and the local teams.

To proactively offer sight guiding, reassurance and solutions to our members and other customers.

To be pro-active and work collaboratively with all teams to ensure a whole centre approach.

The work undertaken is physically demanding when cleaning bedrooms and communal areas and can involve dealing with bodily fluids.

When working in the laundry the work environment can become very hot and noisy while machinery is being operated (if applicable)

The post holder is required to use chemicals and cleaning products daily.

There can be an emotional aspect associated with the post if a resident member who the post holder interacts with on a regular basis becomes upset or unwell.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

Previous cleaning experience in a care home or hotel setting

COSHH, Infection Control and Manual Handling Awareness either from prior experience or formal training

Behaviours which are in accordance with Blind Veterans UK culture statement and values

Desirable:

IOSH Working safely

BICS Licence to practice

Emergency first Aid at work

Ability to multitask and prioritise a diverse range of tasks

Knowledge of the Armed Forces.

Knowlege of Visual Impairment

Previous experience of working with visually impaired, elderly or disabled people.

Experience of working in a high quality customer service environment.
