Data Governance Lead – Contract role

We have a fantastic contract opportunity to join a market leading, billion-pound operation of a company, who are undergoing an exciting digital transformation, so it’s a great time to make an impact!
The company have an opportunity to join the Central Data Office with an exciting plan and long-term vision. They are seeking an experienced data governance lead, with an excellent understanding of information and data management across the entire data lifecycle. You’ll be working closely with the Head of Data & BI, hitting the ground running from a Data Governance perspective and taking the pressure of Senior Leaders’ workload.
The Role
As the company sets out on its journey of moving towards a data-led organization, they have identified the need for an individual to lead on the data management and data governance controls across the group. The company is looking for an exceptional individual who can lead a small team, define, and embed information and data governance controls across the business to ensure compliance with data and information regulatory requirements. The candidate should be able to liaise with colleagues across the business, particularly data sponsors, data owners, and data stewards, to support in their management of data assets.
What you will be getting up to:
* Define and maintain information and data governance controls.
* Ensure that data governance controls are embedded across all areas of the business.
* Ensure that data owners and stewards are defined and assigned to critical data assets across the organization.
* Liaise and work closely with data sponsors, data owners, data stewards, and department leads to ensure alignment of data governance and to maintain best practices.
* Provide support and guidance in the application of data management methods.
* Lead the business activity on data quality remediation plans.
* Stay up to date with current methods and trends in the industry, as well as any relevant regulatory requirements.
What you can bring to the role:
* Experience in data management, data governance, or related roles.
* Excellent understanding of information and data management across the whole lifecycle including methods, toolsets, and architecture.
* Experience in defining and embedding data ownership and stewardship roles within an organization.
* An understanding of data privacy regulations including GDPR.
* Experience of developing and implementing information governance frameworks.
* Experience in communicating the need for good data governance across the business.
* Understanding of information and data governance best practices, including regulatory requirements.
* Ability to work at both strategic and more detailed levels, providing information, leadership, and direction to data governance.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, facilitating discussions to further the understanding of the need for good data governance.
* Ability to identify creative solutions to overcome problems.
* Ability to impart knowledge and offer options to other stakeholders as well as those who work directly in the team.
* Working with multiple stakeholders concurrently.
* Ability to think and act purposefully and methodically.
* Ability to keep it simple and to make it happen.
* Able to take a partnership approach to working with a variety of stakeholders.
* Thirst for continuous improvement.
* Strong communication and engagement – ability to communicate calmly under pressure.
